Hello blog friends, a little scripture today to ponder.
She looks like she is pondering doesn't she? LOL
A page form my art jounral- I can't believe I am almost finished with it.
I think when I am done I will do a video with all the pages- I have already started
a new one with different things in it that are not just faces. I will say though
that the new journal doesnt have any texture and I like the textured
hand made papers better, just my personal preference.
Here is the scripture- details are on the Artistcellar blog today-
you can also find a lot of the supplies I use there.
I like putting scriptures and quotes of things that speak to me in my journals.
I have never been good at memorizing so it's nice to be able to pull these
verses out and use them in my work.
(Disclaimer: I certainly don't claim to be perfect in anyway,
these are things I strive for and I am a visual person so I need to see it!)
Here are the two pages!
On a different note I have not figured out what all the hoopla is about google reader/followers- that it's going away or just part of it on July 1st? Not sure how it will affect me but just to be safe I transferred all the blogs I follow on bloglovin.com (it was super easy and I am not a tech kinda gal!) . I put the blinkie on the right if you want to follow me on bloglovin
or you can subscribe to me through email too.
I am hoping not to lose all my followers when this happens!
Do you know the scoop? I have read so many contradictory things I can't
make sense of it! I guess we will all find out in a few days for sure...
Also if you are on facebook I had to do a business page
you can find it here - https://www.facebook.com/BarakatRita
Seriously I am new to all this social media stuff - it's hard to keep up
and it is very confusing! But it's there, if you could go and "like" my page I would so appreciate it!
I am constantly re-doing my studio probably because it's not "me " yet.
And this gives me incentive to make it presentable!
So I have these recessed cabinets
and my original idea was to get bead board wallpaper, paint to match the
cabinets but I could not find any and when I get a bug to do something I
about to scour the internet and then wait for it to be shipped... :/
Not to mention $$$ for heavy wallpaper rolls! Then I got this
wild idea - what if paint my girls (fairies of course) in those recessed areas?
So I cut pieces of Roc Lon Multi Purpose cloth down to the right size.
(No need to gesso-but I would always try a small section if you are not
familiar with it or the paints you are using. This stuff is so cool!)
I started drawing- I just any mechanical pencils (I hate taking the time to sharpen
when I am on a roll.)
I painted the background to match my cabinets.
My "go to"for flesh tones is Gellatos mixed with Gesso and a little water.
Everybody is different, but it works for me.
Her lips were painted with Luminarte Silks Coral Berry.
High lights with the Big White Brush Pen.
Highlights on the hair are with Alchemy paints- Can you see the iridescent color?
In small areas like eyes I use Faber-Castell Aquarelles, they are great for fine details-
draw first then go back with a small wet paint brush.
In the center of the eyes and the black on the wings I use Stewart Gill Pearlise.
I love the dark rich contrast between the colors and the black. For fine lines I use
the PITT pens.
When I do wings I do the colors first, then the black- this way I can correct
any mistakes I may have made.(What???mistakes??pshh!) Add a few more highlights...
And there she is...only four more to go!
I had better hurry, I still have lots of cleaning to do before the party!
I cant believe it's already June 12th! It is hot, hot, hot in TX!
At least there is a breeze and if you stand in the shade it's not so bad.
Well I lost my first week on summer to a migraine and I determined
that it wont happen again! Thank you for your prayers and well wishes.
I am functioning with a slight headache- but this is doable.
So todays project is in my art journal- I seriously
love this- I am on my second book, not quite finished with the first
but the first was primarily faces this one is a lot more textures and experimentation.
I have been having so much fun incorporating
various techniques into this art journal!
This page actually started with these cork board pieces (DCWV Cork Board 6x6 stack).
I had cut them for another page but changed my mind so I stuck them on
a blank page - the blue is also form another page but you know I like blues :)
See that frame around my girl?
I don't usually like drawing that small but I really liked the frame and wanted to use it.
