Hey bloggers it MiXed MeDiA Friday!
I have another art journal page today- seems like I have been doing alot of that lately!
My girl was painted with Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft® Gelatos® and PITT® Artist Pens.
The highlights on my girls hair and eyes is the Inka Gold! Love this stuff!
I have people ask all the time what kind of paper I use and I have used all kinds but I prefer a heavier weight, watercolor or mixed media paper. If you like a smooth surface, I really like the
Visual Journal from Strathmore, the paper is really thick so it stands up to water and abuse! With all the different mediums and techniques I use I dont want it falling apart after all the work I put into it.
Mine is handmade paper so it has a lot of texture and is pretty thick.
I love the texture but I do have to use
gesso first (think of this as your primer when painting walls- you don't have to use it but you never know what you are going to get if you don't!) or it tends to soak up my paint, sometimes leaving blurry lines. Bottom line- test your paper before going all out!
* I will also tell you to test gessos too before buying a lot of one brand. I do a lot of fine detail work with the my girls faces and I like to be able to use a superfine point PITT ® Artist Pens for details like eyelashes. I have noticed if I use clear gesso it wont work on top of the clear gesso, even over paint. I can use a thicker point pen or clear gesso- bold or bigger,
but if I use white gesso I can use any tip pen I want..
from the
sacred Geometry series first. I used a stencil brush to rub in the color. This paint is creamy, like a paste and the metallic acts as a resist for the Silks acrylic glaze I used next!
I used stamps with a Stampers Big Brush Pen and smeared more
Inka Gold in Steel Blue with my finger around the page. I added thw white dots on top with a
Stampers big white pen and all my journaling with a
PITT Artist pen. I went over the project (masking my two journal spots first) with
Adirondack s Color Wash in Denim. I used Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft® Gelatos®
for the journal spots.
Are you working in an art journal? I would love to see it, leave me a link!
P.S.
Thank you again for all the comments & support with the situation with my mom.
We are still adjusting, (good and bad) at least she is getting the help she needs.
