BIG!

Where does the time go?
I can't believe it's July! Summertime and birthdays! Three of our five kiddos have birthdays in July ! Can you believe that? This little (BIG) guy is first! I can't believe how big he is getting - the three small pics show how much he has grown these few short years!

The papers are from GCD Studios and of course the theme this month is red, white and blue!! I pulled these cute pattern papers from the Artsy Urban collection! This month I used a sketch from Julie Bonner over at Citrus Tree Studios, it's been a long time since I used a sketch - it was totally fun!
And of course I can't have red, white and blue without a few stars in the background!
(Besides he is a superstar!) I hope you are having a wonderful summer!

The graduate...a technique

Don't you just love color!  I love color and I love changing the color of something to make it work for me! ;)
 I
I had and idea for a layout, these great papers (GCD Studios Artsy Urban- love, love , love the glitter!)) and these very cool looking frames (Clear Scraps).(And some cute pics of my oldest daughter!) I wanted it to pop so I needed to add a little color! I laid it out how I thought it would go then wnet to work!

First I had to give the acrylic frames a little color, I did this with alcohol inks. What nice is if it doesn't come out quite how you thought you can add more color to make it darker or different colors to change it. If you still dont like it you can use alchol blending solution, wipe it off and start over! LOL! I used red's and yellows. Here is a close up...

Of course I needed my flowers to match so I brought out my mists (Glimmer Mists and Shimmerz) and sprayed until I got the match to my frames!

And the result...

So go! Color your world! Be creative and use orange! LOL! I love orange it makes me happy!

Let us be grateful...

Can I just say that I love being creative? Of course the latest creations are always my favorite and right now this one is it! Being between  projects right now has made me ancy and I had this canvas around for a few months so I created this!

Cindy at Citrus Tree Studios
gave me this canvas a while back when I was a guest DT and I wanted to do something cool with it but I didn't have an idea for it.
But I was in a creative mood so I even made you a tutorial!
First of all I started withthe canvas (above) and used a back and white photo and and iron on transfer that I printed on my computer!
Now that I have a picture I started masking with a couple of colors!
Pull off the mask and add some detail - I used Shimmerz and Glimmer Mist.
Did you know you can paint with this? Just a little detail...
I wanted to add a quote so I used some stickers for a mask and sprayed a little darker mist. After I was done I peeled up the letters!
As you can see the places where the iron on is on the canvas is resisting the color while the canvas absorbs it so I needed to do a little blending...I broke out my distress ink and blending tool.
I also used some ink on the girls dresses.
I peeled the letters but I didn't like the effect (not enough contrast) from the words on the iron on
so I decided to leave the stickers on by adding gel matte medium on top.
The edges were fraying (and driving me crazy!) and although they are sewn and would
probably only unravel a bit I had to cover it up! I used fabric ribbon from Websters and added a little mist there too!
Last but not least I added Bloomers from Websters on the top and the bottom! ( You know I had to spray those too and just a little Stickles on the edges!) Did you know you can cut these and the flowers don't unravel? Yep, it's true. I also added a little bling from ZVA Creative - you know I had to alter those too butthats a different post! I finished the quote in the right upper corner.

"Let us be grateful for the people who make us happy,
for they are the charming gardeners
who make our souls blossom."
